Journey Beyond, Australia’s leading experiential tourism group, today announced it has completed the acquisition of the Kakadu Crocodile Hotel operations in Australia’s Northern Territory.
Located in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park, the uniquely shaped “Croc Hotel” is an Australian tourism icon. This acquisition continues Journey Beyond’s mission to connect guests with Australia’s most extraordinary destinations through authentic and immersive travel experiences.
“We are incredibly excited to welcome the Crocodile Hotel to the group,” said Chris Tallent, CEO of Journey Beyond. “This property is more than just a place to stay; it is a gateway to the heart of Kakadu. With significant investment planned for the hotel, we look forward to growing awareness and demand to Kakadu, expanding the operational offering and delivering the exceptional experience that our guests expect.”
The Crocodile Hotel is one of Australia’s most distinctive properties, uniquely shaped to represent Kakadu’s most famous resident, the saltwater crocodile. The 110-room hotel is located in the township of Jabiru within Kakadu National Park and features the Manjmukmuk Restaurant and Bar, conference facilities, an outdoor swimming pool, and an on-site art gallery showcasing local artwork.
The addition of the Crocodile Hotel perfectly complements Journey Beyond’s existing Northern Territory icons, including The Ghan and Ayers Rock Resort, and strengthens the group’s commitment to showcasing the rich Indigenous culture and breathtaking landscapes of the Top End. The acquisition aligns with Journey Beyond’s approach of creating experiences, connections and memories that guests cherish for a lifetime.
Journey Beyond has extensive and genuine experience of positively working with Indigenous communities across Australia, including in the Northern Territory’s Red Centre, Arnhem Land and Western Australia’s Kimberley Region. The hotel is situated within Jabiru, upon land leased from the Mirarr Traditional Owners through Gundjeihmi Aboriginal Corporation Jabiru Town (GACJT).
“Journey Beyond very much looks forward to working with GACJT to further develop opportunities across employment, education and enterprise.” Tallent added.
GACJT on behalf of the Mirarr Traditional Owners says, ““this is a positive step in the delivery of the Mirarr Jabiru Masterplan which sees Jabiru as a key North Australian location for ecofriendly tourism, active outdoor tourism and Indigenous cultural tourism”.
Kakadu Tourism Director of Sales and Marketing, Sam Waldron, said “the acquisition by Journey Beyond was great news for the future of tourism in Kakadu and the Top End. Kakadu Tourism has been privileged to represent such an iconic property, and we look forward to watching Journey Beyond breathe new life into the hotel,” she said.
It is business as usual as the Crocodile Hotel joins Journey Beyond’s portfolio of resorts and lodges. The hotel will continue to be led by the existing management team under Journey Beyond’s stewardship.
