Festive Celebrations Aboard the Great Southern

A Christmas and New Year’s with a difference

20 December 2021

Journey Beyond Rail Expeditions’ Great Southern train journey invites guests to celebrate Christmas a little differently this year, with a special one-off departure and festive itinerary.

Departing Adelaide on Christmas Eve, guests will settle into life on board before exploring the dramatic Grampians and being treated to a Christmas Eve supper and live entertainment.

Guests will awake in the ACT on Christmas morning and journey to the cultural and political capital of Canberra for a memorable Christmas Day. Featuring a champagne moment at Mt Ainslie Lookout, a coach tour of the city’s most recognised cultural institutions and a sumptuous Christmas feast at the Hyatt Canberra—it’s Christmas done differently.

Journey Beyond Chief Commercial Officer Peter Egglestone said the Great Southern’s Christmas journey would make for a memorable experience for guests.

“Guests will get to enjoy all the hallmarks of a traditional Christmas Day, including fine food and wine and festivities, but also get the opportunity to celebrate in a way they haven’t before,” Mr. Egglestone said.

“Whether travelling solo or with family or friends, the camaraderie felt on the train and its festive spirit will certainly make for an unforgettable experience, with the added bonus of no stressful preparations or clean up.

“A week later, the Great Southern will depart from Adelaide on New Year’s Eve. Let me say that enjoying a few drinks in the train’s lounge while meeting new people and traversing some of Australia’s most spectacular landscapes is a truly amazing experience. And what a way to say ‘farewell’ to 2021 and ring in the New Year,” Mr. Egglestone said.
