Cruise Whitsundays has unveiled a new era of overnight reef stays with the reopening of Reefworld, its iconic pontoon permanently moored at Hardy Reef on the outer Great Barrier Reef. Following an extensive transformation, Reefworld now offers an elevated, immersive way for guests to experience and wake up on one of the world’s most extraordinary natural wonders.
Representing the most significant evolution of the Cruise Whitsundays reef experience to date, Reefworld now operates only as an overnight pontoon, exclusively for Reefsleep and Reefsuite guests.
The new, unique overnight experience provides exclusive access to the pontoon. From the first snorkel of the day to the final glass of sparkling beneath the stars, guests will be fully immersed in the magic of the World Heritage–listed Great Barrier Reef.
An all-inclusive experience allows guests to indulge in premium dining and beverages, enjoy guided snorkelling adventures with marine experts, and learn from knowledgeable hosts who bring the reef’s stories to life. Whether relaxing on deck, exploring vibrant underwater worlds, or retreating to their unique overnight accommodation, guests can unwind, connect and experience the reef in a way that is truly intimate, immersive and unforgettable.
Chris Tallent, CEO of Journey Beyond, says the launch marks a defining moment for the Great Barrier Reef, creating one of the world’s most immersive overnight reef experiences and reinforcing Australia’s position as a leader in unique nature-based tourism.
“As part of Journey Beyond’s $40 million investment into the region, and continued premiumisation of its Cruise Whitsundays product portfolio, including the build of a new 36-metre catamaran, the refurbishment of Reefworld represents our commitment to taking guests further and elevating their experience on the Great Barrier Reef,” Mr Tallent said.
It ensures Reefworld remains Australia’s number one unique accommodation. From the moment guests arrive, every touchpoint has been designed to deliver a deeper, more immersive connection to the reef from sunrise to sunset. Highlights include a signature, chef-led three-course dining experience paired with premium Australian wines.
Guests then retreat to the redesigned Reefsleep accommodation, 16 spacious, four-poster Reefbeds complete with privacy screens for added comfort or to the underwater Reefsuite rooms, with dedicated dining, lounge and relaxation spaces throughout.
Guests have exclusive access to knowledgeable reef hosts, who bring the underwater world to life through storytelling on the ecology and biodiversity of the reef, while a dedicated Reefworld host and activity concierge caters to guests’ every need on deck.
