The Australian garden, Journey Beyond the Tracks: From Adelaide to Perth, will be rebuilt near Koala Creek at Longleat, home to the only Southern Koalas in Europe.
The flora from the garden will be replanted in Kensington Gardens with the team at Longleat sourcing similar plants more suited to the Wiltshire soil.
James Dare, Head of Facilities at Longleat, said: “We are really excited to be part of this initiative and for the garden to be recreated as part of our celebrations for the 60th year of opening the first Drive-Through Safari outside of Africa. To have an Australian inspired garden is another first for Longleat and will be a key part of our walking safari.
“It will include the structural elements from the Australian garden which have all been created with sustainable materials inspired by the distinctive materials and earthy hues of the outback, including reclaimed timber, ochre-toned eco-concrete, natural stone, aggregate, and low-carbon metals grounding the garden in both environmental responsibility and regional character.
“We have a long-standing partnership with the koala conservation project at Cleland in the Adelaide Hills, and we’re delighted to shine a light on that work and bring a new experience for guests visiting Longleat this summer.
“We will be working with the team to ensure the flora suitable for Wiltshire soil closely matches that being used at the Show; climate, heavy clay soil and rolling topography of the Longleat Estate differ significantly from the conditions at RHS Chelsea. As a result, some planting selections will be adapted to better suit the local environment while still recreating the distinctive look, texture and atmosphere of the original Australian-inspired garden.”
Garden designer Max Parker-Smith said: “The relocation plan for the Journey Beyond the Tracks: Adelaide to Perth garden continues the storytelling around the themes of conservation and climate resilient planting; and forges meaningful partnerships which ensure there is a legacy to our presence at the 2026 RHS Chelsea Flower Show.”
The garden is a unique collaboration between Journey Beyond, the South Australian Tourism and Tourism Western Australia. It showcases the iconic Indian Pacific rail journey and the nature cities of Adelaide and Perth which bookend this epic train adventure.
RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2026 runs from 19-23 May. The garden will be able to be seen at Longleat in the summer.
